Assumptions: 9-27-12

Assumptions: 9-27-12

As I was reading the One Year Bible, the verse that hit me this morning was from Isa. 52:14

14 But many were amazed when they saw him.  His face was so disfigured he seemed hardly human, and from his appearance, one would scarcely know he was a man.

Just before verse 14, there was a reference about how prosperous  and exalted the "him" (Jesus)   was.  In verse 14, the people were amazed because the person they had in front of them did not in any way meet their expectations and assumptions. I feel there is a deep spiritual lesson in that - we limit God (and therefore His ability to move in our lives) by our pre-conceived expectations and assumptions.

For years I was completely opposed to being in the ministry.  I saw people who were and what they did . I knew  that I could never spend my life like that!    Now that I am in full time ministry and have been for years, I realize that I was obviously wrong.  The mistake I made was that I assumed  that their paths, processes and tasks for ministry would be mine as well.  It never crossed my mind that God uses different people with different skill sets, to do the exact same jobs!  My assumption closed off my openness for God to move in that area of my life.  What assumptions do you have today?

My Prayer for Today "Lord, often we don't realize the pre-conceived expectations and assumptions we have.  I pray that today, by your Spirit, you would shine your light on those.  Remove our self-imposed blinders.  Today, may we see you in all your amazing variations and open our eyes to all the posibilities you have for us."

Amen
